OXFW912 1394B-to-ATA7/ATAPI Bridge Firewire800 Firewire400 1394 Link Buffer RAM & Manager Orb Co-Pro IDE USB 2.0 ARM Micro RAM ARM7 Flash UART The Oxford 912 is the latest generation 1394B (Firewire800) to ATA7/ATAPI (IDE) bridge. It supports all PIO, DMA and UDMA modes up to UDMA6, delivering a sustained data transfer performance of over 88MBytes/sec. Hardware features include SBP2.0 acceleration with 'fast start', in addition to dual disk striping and transparent spanning capabilities, all designed to achieve maximum data throughput on Firewire800. Embedded ARM processor Managing the data flow through the FW912, the on-chip ARM7TDMI enables whole new series of standalone consumer electronic products to be developed in a simple C/C++ programming environment. The FW912 uses extensive on-chip hardware accelerators to reduce asynchronous processor interrupts and so dramatically improve data transfer rates. UDMA6 IDE interface The FW912 IDE controller complies with ATA7 and has software configurability which, when combined with optimised ARM code based on many years experience, assures compatibility with magnetic, optical and compact flash media. Hardware support is also provided for dual drives. This, when combined with integrated hardware striping, allows the speed of two drives to be harnessed to create one virtual drive of almost twice the speed. With today's hard drive technology, this is the only sure way of taking full advantage of Firewire800's 800Mbit/sec bandwidth. This feature also allows the two drives to appear as one higher capacity drive. Development tools and custom solutions For external MAC and PC storage solutions, Oxford Semiconductor offers a selection of reference designs, development code, drivers, and evaluation kits.
